Red Coral and Vedic Astrology: How to Avoid the Traps and Choose the Authentic One

"There is nothing perfect in this world. That's why roses have thorns." - Confucio
In Vedic astrology, red coral (Moonga) is associated with Mars (Mangala), the planet of energy, courage, and determination. Wearing it can harmonize its influences, enhancing inner strength, protection, and success.
But there is one crucial detail: its energy depends on its authenticity. If the coral is not genuine, its power dissipates.
And here arise two major paradoxes, often overlooked by those in search of the "perfect" piece.
✅ First Paradox: The Sage Endorses a Fake Coral
Many people rely on a sage or an astrologer to choose the right coral. And this is absolutely legitimate: they are experts in energy and spirituality, and their role is valuable for those who follow the Vedic tradition.
However, it is important to remember that a sage is not an expert on corals.
If the selection criterion is a perfectly uniform coral, without natural signs, there is a risk of purchasing a synthetic or plastic piece, because absolute perfection exists only in artificial materials.
And here is the paradox: the sage might still endorse it in good faith, because his task is not to recognize an authentic coral, but to provide spiritual guidance.
As the proverb goes: "To each his own trade." At Eredi Jovon, we deeply respect the Vedic tradition and the work of those who pass on its knowledge, but it is up to us to ensure that the coral is of the highest quality, authentic and natural.
A visible imperfection is not a flaw: it is a normal characteristic of a material that is born in nature. Those who work with coral every day know that these small irregularities do not compromise quality; in fact, they are the distinctive sign of authenticity.
I give you the example of the apple among the eggs: just look at the image below!
Seeing the apple among the eggs does not mean that suddenly you have become experts on apples or eggs, but simply that your eyes work well and you do not need glasses. Knowing why that apple is among the eggs, how it got there, and what its presence signifies is, well, ladies and gentlemen, an entirely different story. Mastery of information is not necessarily mastery of knowledge. For a more practical example: ask any doctor friend what they think of “Dr. WEB.”
The expert knows that a coral can be of the highest quality even if it shows a slight variation in color or a microscopic irregularity on its surface. Those who do not know this trade only notice the imperfection and consider it a problem, simply because they lack the tools to evaluate the material as a whole.
Authentic coral is not perfect. It is true. And those who really know coral recognize it at first glance. This has been understood for generations, not just since yesterday.
A fake coral is like a frozen pizza in a restaurant that appears authentically Italian: at first glance it deceives, but once you taste it, you realize that tonight you won't sleep well.
If the coral is not genuine, its power dissipates.
✅ Second Paradox: Seeking a Perfect Red and Ending Up with a Dyed Coral
Today, due to a widespread belief, everyone wants extremely red coral. But this preference is more a product of a commercial idea than of any intrinsic value.
Authentic Italian coral has natural shades ranging from delicate orange to deep red, but never an excessive or unnatural hue. There is no real difference between a lighter coral and a darker one in terms of quality or energy, except for the perception created by the market.
To meet the growing demand for very dark corals, the market had to adapt: the price of darker coral was artificially raised to rebalance sales and make normally colored coral appealing again.
If the color is too perfect and uniform, it might be the result of chemical dyes. And a dyed coral, despite its impeccable appearance, will deteriorate over time, losing value and—for those who believe in it—its original energy.
Seeking absolute perfection often leads to the opposite result: a modified product, devoid of its authenticity.
A dyed coral is like a sports car with the engine of a moped: it may look powerful, but once you try to accelerate, you realize it’s all just appearance. Isn’t it better to have a real car?
If the coral is not genuine, its power dissipates.
A side note, but no less important. The question I am most often asked is: "But is it real coral? Is it certified?" As you might imagine, my answer is always yes. Usually, I in turn ask: "Are you ready to spend for genuine coral?" Many clients, in fact, tell me about the pitfalls they have encountered because they tried to stick to an impossibly low budget and ended up with what I have defined as "Mr. Smart Guy." If you wish, you can read his story here.
Purchasing with an overly low budget is a bit like trying to drive a Ferrari at the price of a bicycle: sure, you might move faster than those on foot, but a small scooter will soon leave you behind. Quality always comes at a cost, and focusing solely on saving money often means ending up with something that doesn’t last, fails to meet its promises, and ultimately falls short of expectations. And the ironic part is that when you realize this, you can’t help but feel a little foolish… and let’s be honest, that isn’t a very pleasant feeling!
