Canova's sculpture of the Three Graces is considered one of his most celebrated and iconic works. It was commissioned in 1813 by Empress Josephine, the wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, for her private residence, the Château de Malmaison near Paris. However, the sculpture remained unfinished at the time of Josephine's death in 1814, and it was eventually completed in 1817.
